Bert Williams Leisure Centre, Bilston

When we look back over the years this is a project that really sticks in our minds! During the regeneration of Bilston in 2011, Kingfisher were asked to provide bespoke louvres for the £18.6m Bert Williams Leisure Centre.

The building is 5600m2 and three stories high, with a curved façade, and is named after former Wolverhampton Wanderers and England goalkeeper Bert Williams. The centre includes a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, studio pool, dance/aerobic studio, badminton courts, sports hall, squash courts, crèche, and a 100 station health & fitness area.

Kingfisher supplied almost 1500m of KW75Z blade, paired with M1 mullions, much of this was installed within the curved façade of the building. This posed a challenge as the louvres needed to be faceted to produce a curved appearance. This meant the blades needed to be mitred to exact angles to ensure the blades lined up perfectly on site. The louvres were supplied with a mixture of HDPE insect mesh for live louvre areas and aluminium blanking plate for the areas where live louvres were not needed. The KW75Z louvres provide a 58% free area delivering a combination of good airflow and weather protection.

The louvres were expertly installed by @Roofdec for main contractor Shepherd Construction. When asked about the installation project manager Craig Fletcher from Shepherd Construction commented, “Roofdec had to make sure each blade was in the right place so that a perfect abutment was achieved. Kingfisher fabricated each blade to exact measurements and within tolerance.”

The KW75Z louvres are one of our range of single bank louvres, all of which are BSRIA tested for ventilation and weather protection. To discuss any louvre requirements for your project please call  01773 814 102 or email info@kingfisherlouvres.com.
