Westfield Case Study

Westfield Shopping Centre, Derby

A fresh approach is being brought into
Westfield and Hermes’ £340m Westfield Derby redevelopment in Derby city centre with help from Kingfisher.

When building subcontractor Roofdec were tasked with providing car park and plant screening for the £340m Westfield shopping centre in Derby, Kingfisher Louvre Systems were the natural choice to provide a quality product which matched the architectural vision of the project.

As part of Derby town centres comprehensive regeneration plan, the Westfield site occupies 1m ft2 in the heart of the town centre. Kingfisher were able to supply their KW100 aluminium louvres to screen off the entrance and exit area of the car park and the rooftop plant area, allowing air to pass naturally through the structure and preventing the ingress of driving rain, dirt and debris from entering from outside. The louvres also allow comfortable temperatures to be maintained by allowing excess heat to escape.

The louvres were finished in RAL9006 metallic to compliment the buildings colour palette. As Kingfisher have access to an in house surface treatment facility, providing the right colour was made even easier and also reduced the lead time.
Kelly Phipps of Kingfisher observed “The main architectural feature, particularly along the London Road elevation was to create a clean inviting appearance. Not only were we able to achieve this objective, we also ensured they perform to the highest level”.
