North Sea Observatory Project
Back in 2018, Kingfisher and our sister company Passivent were approached to support on the North Sea Observatory development in Chapel St Leonards. The North Sea Observatory is a purpose-built marine observatory which houses a café, an art area, and local exhibitions throughout the year. The observatory is surrounded by quintessential British seaside and creates a striking landmark on the East coast. The project is a perfect example of how Kingfisher and Passivent products can be installed together to provide a total solution for the customer.
Louvres were required for installation within the sea-facing side of the building for ventilation, and the customer also needed to maintain a level of weather protection. Kingfisher’s KW75Z louvres were chosen for this application, this system provides a 58% free area and is classed as our “mid-range” system for weather protection. The project’s needs were quite unique as the design required four triangular and two pentagon-shaped louvres to be fabricated from glazing frame extrusion. The Kingfisher team rose to the challenge and manufactured the required products to a high quality and to the exacting specifications provided by the customer.
Our sister company Passivent provided motorised dampers, which were fitted internally, behind the Kingfisher Louvres. Passivent also supplied an iC8000 control system, which is designed to manage the flow of air in and out of the building and can also communicate with a third-party window actuator system.
While Kingfisher and Passivent operate as two separate companies within the Building Product Design group, they can collaborate to provide a total solution for your projects. Our Sales, Technical and Admin teams work alongside each other as do the Kingfisher and Passivent fabrication teams. Orders can be manufactured alongside one another meaning that we can reduce minimum powder coating costs, delivery costs and save our customers the stress of liaising with multiple suppliers.
